In 1927, the state of California gifted Idlewild Park and the California Building to the city. This gave the city a unique role as a crossroads for the new transcontinental highways, the Lincoln Highway and Victory Highway. The town became a popular stop for travelers and soon became a major crossroads for the Lincoln and Victory Highways. The Reno Arch was moved to Idlewild Park and now sits next to the National Automobile Museum.
